CPAA's Pilot Proficiency Program

CPAA Pilot Proficiency Program

Click here for information on Module 3 of the C182 PPP

The CPAA has a new PPP under development to provide a specially designed program for the operation of the Cessna 182 which will be available to our pilot members and other 182 pilots.

In conjunction with the Air Safety Foundation of Australia (ASFA), the CPAA will facilitate and coordinate the C182 PPP which aims to enhance pilot proficiency and allow pilots to renew their knowledge of their aircraft - whether they be old, new or rekindled.

The 2 - 3 day courses will be run by ground and flight instructors who are fully conversant with the 182 and will consist of the following components:

ground course and refresher of POH (eg weight and balance)

normal and emergency operations

ground handling, procedures and systems and engine management will be conducted by a LAME.

comprehensive flying curriculum including all phases of flight, eg:
- take off and landings - normal, short and soft field
- cruising
- stalls
- flying by the numbers

IFR and PIFR proficiences will be added to the course at a later stage.

At completion of the course, successful participants will receive a certificate and all course notes and books for their future reference.

The PPP aims to promote safety through higher pilot awareness and better aircraft management and handling in all flying configurations. We aim to encourage pilots to become more proficient, thereby reducing accident and incident reports. Your participation in the PPP will be favourably looked upon by your aircraft insurer.

ASFA, who have supported and encouraged us in this program, will be involved in training the trainer and will also adopt and amend this program, with the assistance of the CPAA, to suit other Cessna types such as C210 and C172.

The first round of C182 PPP was well attended and received. Participants will carry out Module 3 later this year. We will announce the second round of C182 PPP mid 2006. We envisage that the program will be conducted at strategic points throughout the country bi-annually.

A pilot who is current is not necessarily proficient,
but a proficient pilot is always current.
